William has been working for Red’s since shortly after it open in Downtown Indy, in 2007. His presence fills the shop from the moment you walk in the front door. He always remembers a face and is a very personable person. He has taken over Red’s in 2021 and takes on the responsibility well.
When you work in the hospitality business, you tend to search for hospitality in other industries when shopping, dining, or receiving routine services– such as a haircut. We wanted to create something that would offer guests genuine customer service from knowledgeable, skilled professionals for a higher quality service in an environment reminiscent of when barbershops were a friendly gathering place for people of all walks of life.
We believe in an experience that feels authentic in its people, products, and, ambiance. We pride ourselves on a business model free from gimmicks; where a man can enjoy a classic place that helps restore his sense of self. Our passion for preserving pieces of history is expressed both physically: in our careful restoration of antique turn-of-the-century barber chairs and other furnishings, repurposing old salvaged materials in our architecture and design, and emotionally: in helping create a familiar environment that welcomes all ages from your son’s first haircut, to a hot lather, straight razor shave for your grandfather. These old-fashioned traditions at Red’s Classic Barbershop Co. are carefully maintained with the art of true barbering and shaving, as well in our abundant selection of unique gentlemen’s grooming and specialty retail products. Our interest in urban renewal is valued through specifically serving the downtown business, residential, and tourist communities.
So whether you work, live, or visit one of our cities, we offer you our hospitality, and genuinely appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
“It pays to look well”
William.
Thank you all so much for all you have done
for us and our community!
The flagship model of Red’s Classic Barbershop Co. was opened in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana in February 2007. In a very short time, the 6 chair shop, along with an active shoeshine business, became one of the most successful barbershops—if not small businesses—in the city. Red’s of Indy has been voted “Indy’s Best Barbershop” on The Indy A-List awards from 2008-2013 and in NUVO for 2014, as well as received a constant stream of publicity ranging from local newspaper, magazine, television, blog press features, and even national press in USA Today. Red’s has been the preferred barber shop for gentlemen ranging from Indy’s average Joe to the Governor of Indiana. Our second location in downtown Nashville opened in April 2010.
We started this company because we believe there is a need in the market for traditional gentlemen’s barbering, which is generally missing from today’s choices in men’s hairstyling. We want to provide not only a routine service, but also an experience that compels someone to return because they truly enjoy themselves. The world we live in has become more hectic and faster paced than ever before, and because of this hectic pace, people look for an opportunity to slow down. We can provide that opportunity to customers through great facilities, great products, and great customer service. The training you will receive will require that we meet those goals.
Great Facilities: Red’s is designed to recapture the feeling of the early classic barbershop. It is reminiscent of your father’s old barbershop, but with modern comforts for today’s men as well. We have a more socially designed waiting area that gives the customer the ability to slow down and be taken care of. We believe that every part of who and what we are should be better than our competition and you see can it in our facility.
In order to preserve the traditional experience of an old time barber shop, we at Red’s have acquired and refurbished antique barber chairs from all around the country. These chairs were all manufactured between 1900 and 1940 by either the Koken Barbering Co., of St. Louis, MO, Koch’s Barber Supply Co. of Chicago, IL, or Emil J. Paidar of Chicago, IL. The chairs themselves are an integral part of who we are. They are representative of the history of the barbering profession and those who took great pride in using them over the years. Period lighting hangs from the ceiling and antique sconces adorn the walls. Whenever possible we try to repurpose salvaged architectural elements such as marble surfaces, doors, tin ceiling tiles, etc. into the design of the space to greater enhance its authenticity.
Great Products: Red’s has done extensive research to find unique, quality retail products that are available at a wide range of price points. Our goal isn’t to sell an “expensive” product to every customer, but to sell “a” product to every customer. For this reason, the shop offers everything from lip balms to shaving sets. Retails items will vary in different shop locations, and change seasonally. “Red’s Classic Naturals” is also our own in-house selection of shaving soaps, bath soaps, and pre-shave oil.
The types of products we carry are:
Great Service: We truly believe that great customer service is the only thing that will keep our customers coming back. The service industry is something that you need to enjoy to be successful in. We look at service jobs as a unique opportunity to make people feel good. There are very few professions out there that when you wake up in the morning you can say, “I will make someone else’s life better today.”
